She was at it again, the tapping of her feet turning into a stampede. Why was it coming to this? He had tried to make sense of it for a long time, and while he understood her basic reasons, the master plan eluded him. He remembered better days: how she nurtured him during his youth, how her warmth and predictability made him strong and confident.
All of that seemed like an illusion now, and still, it was the origin of his life's purpose. The green dress she loved to wear during the earlier summers, so delicate, strewn with daisies and wild flowers. Her mere presence causing a flutter around him, giving the impression that there was nothing but an abundance of beauty in this world. Anything her fingertips touched appeared to bloom instantly.
